About Us

Sterling Medical Chambers was co-founded by Dr Andrew Gammack and Imogen Moore and became operational on August 10th 2009. We are the first such chambers in the North of England.

The concept of the freelance GP Chambers is loosely based on the barristers’ chambers of the English legal system. In the same way that a firm of solicitors engages the services of a barrister through his or her chambers, a GP practice can engage the services of a locum GP through the freelance GP Chambers of which that locum is a member. Members of chambers, also known as ‘tenants’, remain self-employed and have no shared professional liability. Each tenant contributes a proportion of their income towards the running of the chambers. A chambers manager performs all the administrative duties on behalf of the tenants.

It is important to note that a freelance GP Chambers is NOT a locum agency – the distinction being that the members of the chambers in effect “employ” the chambers management, whereas a locum agency “employs” the locums it uses.

Imogen is our Chambers Manager, and is Harrogate born and bred. All our tenants live in the area and we have established excellent working relationships with our local practices. A number of us have been GP Partners locally and/or worked individually as locums for several years. We aspire to and are gaining a high reputation - we know that efficiency and reliability are vital to our success.
